10 months ago, I had no idea what I was doing. 10 months ago, I bought my first car, an 84 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Sedan. A few weeks ago, I gave it away to fellow Opponaut, TheVancen, as I will be moving to kelowna in 1.5 weeks. That got me thinking. I should get a truck.
So I told everyone that I was buying a truck. I’m sorry, I lied. You see, experiences shape who we are. Owning my Cutlass was the best experience of my life. That’s why I’m technically insane. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. My first experience ended because of a lack of time. You see, I came into the world of Oppo as G_Body_Man, and I will continue to be G_Body_Man. That’s right, I’m buying another G Body. And I will continue to own G-bodies until I die. Because a G-body is not just a car. It is a part of who I am.

Ain’t nuthin’ but a G thang. No worries.

You are to G-Bodies as I am to 3rd-Gen Subaru Outbacks or Volvo 240’s.
They simply make you...you.
As someone who is also carless, I 100% feel your pain.

The worst part? I didn’t even get to drive my first G-body.

Any platform with that much variety is worth it. Also, Regal T-type.

Better this than a G strang.

NOOOO
This is an international (becasue Canada) travesty.
Our live-in friend had a 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, back in 2004. 305. Upgraded Edelbrock carb and a Magnaflow exhaust. Automatic. White with brick red velour interior. That thing was awesome.

Knowing very little about gm vehicle designation, but some about what cars are the same car under another brand, is the el camino considered a g-body?
Also, while it’s all well and good to like a certain car model/group, it’s good to branch out and try new things. Not only could you find something you like more, if you don’t, it makes you appreciate your preference all the more. I miss my 1990 Volvo turbo wagon every day, but am grateful for and feel more at ease in my much-newer, safer, and more-economical Mazda6.

So what’s next? A wagon maybe? If you’re lucky you might be able to find one of those not-a-hatchbacks. Those were neat rides.
Being in the Great White North might make the Rust Monster a constant issue though.

Yup, later El Caminos are G-bodies. I’ve trier new things. I’ve driven a BMW, an Infiniti, a Toyota, a Honda, and a Volkswagen. None have made me as happy as my G-body.

I’d love a wagon or a fastback, but right now I have my eye on a 1985 Cutlass Supreme Coupé Brougham with the T-tops, Rally gauge pack, and a rebuilt motor.

Is that the ideal G-body, or just a particular one that you like?

Just one that I like

Amen brotha...stay true to yourself! :D
I’m basically “quirky car guy” guy...my DDs have been fairly normal (2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS and my current ‘09 Hyundai Accent L hatch), but I’ve always loved odd, strange cars, especially smaller, basic ones - screw the fact I live in Canada where most of those never existed, haha! My list includes small FIATs like the classic 500, 126 and original Panda...Citroën 2CV (and Citroen in general)...Autobianchi Bianchinas, A112s ad Y10s, older Lancia Ypsilons...Peugeot 204s, 304s, and 504s....Japanese kei cars...
I WILL own one SOMETHING of those, but the FIAT 126 is currently top of my list! A communist Polish-built Italian supermini? REAR-engined, RWD, air-cooled, inline-2? All in complete opposition to what is the norm nowadays with a special and unique history (I’ve got a History degree) as being the “People’s Car” to an entire country and built with hardly any changes for the better part of almost 30 years? Ticks all the boxes for me! :D

Seriously though. I’ve had so much fun in them. At one point 3 of my friends had them. They’re such great cars. Buy it.

It’s right in my budget, as well.

Cable clutch. I’ve driven my friend’s 5 speed maroon wagon and it’s a hoot. A slow hoot but still a hoot. And decent highway gas millage.

I think driving slowly, but having a good time doing it, is the best kind of driving.

I have a personal connection to that car.
Back when I was 2-5 years old, I lived in a huge, upper-middle-class neighborhood in Cary, called Cotswold. Our one neighbor had this exact 245, and drove it from Raleigh to Charlotte everyday.
(I know it is this car based on the lack of paint on the hood, and I vividly remember our neighbor telling me it was a 1976. This was when I started getting into cars, and I will never forget it).
In late 2004, he sold the car, and the whole family moved to Charlotte so he could be closer to work. They now have a 2012 Volvo S60 T6 and a 2009 Honda Odyssey.

So buy it. My first car was my neighbor/ preschool teacher’s old car and the Tacoma was my other neighbors.

I really should look into it. I’m actually kinda surprised that it is still on the road, 11 years after my neighbor sold it. I know that he took meticulous care of the mechanics of the wagon. Cosmetics? Not so much.

You can do both. Not many of these have paint.
